My Higher Learning's State of the Art/This fire burning's coming straight from the heart/Take a look into my soul don't be afraid of the dark/I was frozen stiff when I found We've been betrayed from the start/Cause Life's a motion picture, God wrote the script were only playing the part/Reality's making it's mark, coupled with the facts of life/Were trapped to fight/Against a nation who still discriminates black and white/Cats pass the pipe, trying to zone because the pain's great/But don't realize many have died alone, for trying to gain papes/Was it the Devil who changed fate?, backtrack to Adam and Eve/Though the serpent offered the fruit, God planted the seed/The result: Niggas pack iron and heat/To even the odds of life designed for street/Friendly smiles for many miles mask the sign of the beast/Till my souls escaping my flesh/I'll ponder life and be contemplating whats left/Weighing peace and harmony agasint spraying the techs/Untill I'm laying to rest, I'll seek and find/Till I've found piece of mind/Through many years of trial and error, I've finally learned to read between the lines/Leap into time, sneak from behind to analyze the fate of my quest/And find it's Me against the World so start placing your bets/In the game of life, the tables turned now kids are playing with death/Thats why real hip hop is dying time to pay your respects/Thoughts of redeeeming the times/Of when niggas fought to gain freedom of minds/Now their developments are arrested and all they care about is how sweet are their rhymes/But despite all the worries all I hear is vacant stereo sounds/While I crave real hip hop to ressurrect my soul from ancient burial grounds/Lifes a Merry go round, always moving but getting nowhere fast/While niggas lock skeletons in the closet rather than to show there past/the book of life, I shook the dice, and found myself at chapter one/From the beginning to end, they'll be sinning from men untill the raptures done/Word....Life/I blow poetry from my herb pipe/I keep my ear to street, but I'm never sure if I heard right/Once was blinded now I see the light/don't believe the hype/Cause while your pens are bleeding ink, our pens are breathing life/I'm conceiving a slice, of things to come in the grief and struggle/Understand in life, that death is the final piece of the puzzle/So whats next?....Education, you can take it or leave it/While you hold nines, and flow rhymes, we blow minds for sacred reasons. *=lines slightly off beat, but done on purpose. p.s. Common is definitely a tight ass emcee, he is my second favorite of all time.
